The messages delivered by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev from Zangilan are a warning to revanchists in Armenia, said Rizvan Nabiyev, a member of the International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, during today’s parliamentary session, APA reports.
The MP said that the speech delivered by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during the meeting with residents of Zangilan can be regarded as a strategic manifesto of the new geopolitical realities and foreign policy course shaped by Azerbaijan, as well as, in general, the statehood struggle that began during the leadership period of National Leader Heydar Aliyev: “The messages delivered by the President are highly significant in terms of both place and time. Zangilan is located in the East Zangezur economic region liberated from occupation. This means that there is also a western part of Zangezur, and the transfer of this territory to Armenia on November 30, 1920, is a historical fact. In other words, there is a long history of various forces using the Armenian issue as a tool of pressure against Azerbaijan. Secondly, since only a few days remain until the June 7 parliamentary elections, the messages delivered by the President from Zangilan are a warning not only to external forces, but also to all political circles in Armenia, especially the revanchists. The President’s message is an indication of our state’s real military power and pragmatic policy, and it carries an unequivocal character.”
Rizvan Nabiyev noted that France, which has lost its influence in Africa and the Middle East, is looking for new geopolitical activity zones and is trying to penetrate the South Caucasus, against the backdrop of its leadership facing a serious loss of influence domestically: “The Armenian government, however, is trying to replace the outpost function the country fulfilled for a long time with a policy of becoming a platform for French neocolonialism. Although the President of France stated that the South Caucasus ‘should not become an arena of competition between empires,’ he is pursuing a policy of militarizing Armenia. There is still time and opportunity to learn lessons from history, stop searching for patrons, and pursue a policy in line with the new political realities created by Azerbaijan.”
