The number and identities of Azerbaijani citizens killed and injured aboard the cargo vessels Natra and Zirkon as a result of drone attacks in the Sea of Azov on June 5 have been clarified.
According to a statement issued by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, updated information indicates that out of a total of 25 Azerbaijani citizens, four were injured and four were reported killed.
It was also established that one of the individuals initially reported as deceased was not an Azerbaijani citizen or of Azerbaijani origin, but a Russian citizen.
“The bodies of our deceased citizens, Rajab Ahadov, born in 1976, and Mohammad Aliyev, born in 1997, have been recovered, and measures are being taken to repatriate their remains to Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that the vessel Zirkon, on which the other two Azerbaijani citizens reported dead were serving, remains at the site of the strike due to the risk of further explosions. Russian rescue teams are implementing safety measures to bring the vessel to port. Only after search operations are completed will it be possible to provide definitive information regarding the fate of these two citizens,” the statement said.
The ministry noted that the injured citizens, Samid Ibadzade and Rashad Madatkhanov, both born in 1998 and hospitalized in Yeysk, have already been discharged.
The conditions of Emin Valehov, born in 2002, and Namiq Jafarli, born in 1999, are reported to be good, and they will be released from hospital upon completion of their treatment.
Employees of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia are present in the area and are taking the necessary steps to provide assistance to Azerbaijani citizens.
“All of our citizens have been accommodated in a hotel in the city of Yeysk and remain in contact with their families. Citizens wishing to return home who have lost their documents have been provided with the necessary travel certificates,” the statement added.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its condolences to the families and relatives of those who lost their lives in the incident.
