The 5th meeting of the Russian-Azerbaijani Expert Council was held in Baku, APA reports.

Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center) said that the council, which has been operating since 2021, aims to develop relations between the two states.

Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev said that the foundation of today's Russian-Azerbaijani relations was laid in 2001 by National leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin: “Currently, relations between our states are deepening in many areas. Azerbaijan has extensive relations with more than 70 subjects of Russia.”

Igor Maslov, Head of the Directorate for Interregional Relations and Cultural Contacts with Foreign Countries of the Russian Presidential Administration said that the powers of the expert group established in 2021 were later expanded: “Initially, the expert group established in 2021 was planned to deal only with the development of bilateral relations, later, the group began to pay attention to international issues as well. Following the collapse of the bipolar world system, there was a need to adapt the global security system to new realities. Currently, we see that the level of conflict between different countries, peoples and cultures is extremely high. Changes in the world economy and relations between people have become extremely global.”

The event went on with panels closed to the press.
