The filmmakers of the documentary “The Son”, which reveals Natig’s heroism and investigates his fate, expressed their gratitude to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.

The statement released by the the filmmakers of “The Son” says that the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on June 25th posthumously bestowed volunteer fighter Natig Gasimov the honour of National Hero of Azerbaijan: “This is the highest national title awarded in the Republic of Azerbaijan. Natig Gasimov was conferred this tribute for protecting the territory of Azerbaijan and the personal courage he displayed during the performance of a combat mission.”

The filmmakers of the documentary “The Son”, which reveals Natig’s heroism and investigates his fate, expressed their gratitude to the President: “The film is about Natig’s selfless defence of a strategically-located church that was besieged by Armenian forces during the First Garabagh war in 1992, his surrender, interrogation and the investigation that led to those responsible for Natig’s disappearance. “

Note that Executive Producer Tale Heydarov, Director Karan Singh and Producer Eckart Sager worked over three years on the film, tracking down witnesses and perpetrators, uncovering the truth that unfolded over 30 years ago and illustrating the lasting impact it had on family and friends.

“Azerbaijan has since recovered its lost territories from Armenian occupation. But sons continue to lose their lives due to wars and war crimes every day around the world. Most of them go unnoticed. But Natig’s fate is not a statistic anymore. Today he is Azerbaijan’s National Hero,” – says in the statement.

Note that “The Son” held its world premiere in 2021 at the Whistleblower Film Festival in Washington D.C. that highlights civil and human rights violations across the globe. The documentary was also the official selection at the North Dakota Human Rights Film Festival in the United States and the prestigious Mumbai International Film Festival in India. In March this year, it held its UK premiere at Bafta’s Princess Anne Theatre.
