"Article 25 of the UN Charter states that the states have an obligation to accept and implement the decisions of the Security Council. Therefore, it is not a positive experience that the Council ignores and misinterprets its decisions,' said Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev said during open discussions on multilateralism at the UN Security Council, APA reports.
The deputy minister said that the organization's resolutions regarding Azerbaijan had not been implemented for 27 years: "Those resolutions state an immediate, complete, and unconditional end to the occupation of Azerbaijan's sovereign territory. "For nearly 30 years, hundreds of thousands of people have been expelled from their lands, they have been completely ignored, and impunity has prevailed."
Fariz Rzayev reminded that in September 2020, Azerbaijan was forced to launch a counter-offensive operation in response to Armenia's large-scale armed provocation. As a result of the operation, the territory of Azerbaijan was liberated from occupation, which was in accordance with Article 51 of the Charter and relevant decisions of the Council.
The deputy head of the MFA added that Azerbaijan is extending a hand to Armenia for normalization after the conflict. He called on Armenia to stop its illegal activities, end its territorial claims and focus on direct negotiations for a diplomatic solution.
