"Number of corners, operating in Azerbaijan, has reached 7 with the American Corder that we inaugurated in Lankaran. We have inaugurated 2 new American Corners this year," said US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lee Litzenberger at the inauguration of American Corner at Lankaran University, APA reports.
Ambassador has reminded that one of the Corners has been opened in Shaki city: "I enjoy natural beauties, hospitalities and warmth of people, as well as tasting local delicious meals in each region of Azerbaijan I visit."
Ambassador has noted that other partner bodies of the US in Azerbaijan actively help ANAMA to work on clearance of Azerbaijani territories from mines: "The US has allocated USD 500,000 for clearance of Azerbaijani territories from mines and saving people from damage by mines and Azerbaijani government has hosted an international conference on mine clearance this week. Conference participants have recently visited Aghdam and I should note that two representatives of the State Department attended the conference coming from Washington. I note with great satisfaction that the Marshall Legacy Institute of the US has agreed with the Azerbaijani government on giving mine detection dogs. Azerbaijan is considered to be provided with 300 mine detection dogs in total, so far, 20 such dogs have been presented to the Azerbaijani side. Mine detection training for these dogs is a very expensive activity. Training a dog costs USD 25,000, because this is the most expensive training for dogs. The Azerbaijani government has borne one-third or about half of the total cost of providing and training these dogs in Azerbaijan. The rest will be implemented by the US government. There is a great need to clear mines in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is one of the 10 most polluted countries in the world due to landmines. I am very pleased that, along with the United States, other international partners are helping Azerbaijan in this humanitarian need," the diplomat noted.
