Jaap de Hoop Scheffer: NATO always supports territorial integrity of countries

Speaking about the problems between Georgia and Russia, the Secretary General mentioned that there was a great divergence between NATO and Russia concerning the problem.
â€œI consider that South Ossetia and Abkhazia are territories of Georgia, not of Russia. The UN Security Council also says this. Military invasion of these regions and their recognition contradict the principle of the territorial integrity. NATO sees the solution to this problem in the political dialogue. Thatâ€™s why, we launched NATO-Russia dialogue. We consider that South Ossetia and Abkhazia are integral part of Georgia. The issue of the territorial integrity is a very serious problem. NATO always supports territorial integrity of countries,â€ he said.
