Washington. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. After the re-election of Obama, the main foreign policy priorities of the US will be Iran and China, The Washington Post’s expert and columnist David Ignatius told APA. He noted that in connection with the elections, several foreign policy issues were set aside, but from now on, the activity will increase in this sphere.

He said that due to Iran problem, there is a risk for the US to be involved in a war in the next 2 years. But nevertheless, Ignatius thinks that Obama will not attempt to start a military campaign against Iran: ‘During election campaign, Obama announced that the military campaigns ended in other countries. He will not risk involving the country in a new military conflict’.

The expert thinks that the negotiations with Iran can be intensified in the near future within the framework of the existing format. He also did not exclude open or secret negotiations between the US and Iran.

According to Ignatius, the relations of the US with neighboring countries will change in relation to Iran: ‘To my mind, as confrontation with Iran continues, Azerbaijan understands its strategic significance. Azerbaijan has strategic leverage, that is why the US will not try to exert pressure upon Azerbaijan, because it needs Azerbaijan’.
