Foreign Minister of Afghanistan Zalmai Rassoul will also arrive in Azerbaijan. He will attend the 20th meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization to be held on October 15.

Note that, Baku Declaration, to be adopted at the end of the Summit, will reflect future activity directions of the organization.

Remind that, Economic Cooperation Organization is an intergovernmental regional organization established in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey for the purpose of promoting economic, technical and cultural cooperation among the member states. It was the successor organization of what was the Regional Cooperation for Development (RCD), founded in 1964, which ended activities in 1979. In the fall of 1992, the ECO expanded to include seven new members, namely Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Economic Cooperation Organization received the observer status in the Organization of the United Nations’ 48th Session of the UN General Assembly in 1993, and in the Organization of Islamic Conference in 1994.

Azerbaijan is a member of the organization since 1992.
