Uzbekistanâ€™s President: â€œTerritorial integrity of Azerbaijan must be ensuredâ€

Baku â€“ APA. The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov made joint press statements on October 12. APA reports that President Ilham Aliyev expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the states within international organizations. He expressed his gratitude to Uzbekistan for supporting Azerbaijan while being elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. The Head of State also expressed his gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for his support in the process of the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh: â€œAzerbaijan has always supported and will always support fraternal Uzbek people in the international arenaâ€.
Speaking about the implemented communication projects, the Head of State said that Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan are establishing new Silk Road: â€œThis road will connect the continents. It will provide the great potential of transport between the states and will strengthen the confidence in the regionâ€.
President Aliyev said the directions of cooperation were determined at the recent meeting of Intergovernmental Commission. The Head of State also mentioned that the level of trade turnover between the states is not on the desired level.
In his turn, President Islam Karimov said that the current level of the turnover satisfies neither Uzbekistan, nor Azerbaijan. The existing potential is not used fully.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Karimov underlined the importance of ensuring the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan: â€œGreat achievements of Azerbaijan, which remains in the situation of conflict, are the demonstration of heroism of the Azerbaijani peopleâ€.
Karimov regarded the election of Azerbaijan as the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council as the recognition of the Azerbaijanâ€™s role in the realization of the world policy.
Karimov invited Ilham Aliyev to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan.
