The 12th sitting of EU-Azerbaijan Cooperation Council held in Brussels

EU management was represented by Mikolay Dovgilevich, State Secretary of Foreign Ministry of Poland and Schtefan Fulle, EU high commissioner on enlargement and neighbourhood policy at the sitting.
Sitting was headed by Azerbaijani side. EU representatives congratulated Azerbaijani delegation for winning a non-permanent seat at UN Security Council and taking the first place at Eurovision Song Contest.
In this regard, the countryâ€™s growing influence in the international arena was welcomed, and it was noted that all these successes are great opportunity to praise Azerbaijan to the world.
E. Mammadyarov gave wide information to EU representatives on negotiations process of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement process. He noted importance to solve this conflict within the norms and principles of international law and European Neighborhood Policy, as it was mentioned EU-Azerbaijan Action Plan within sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. The roles and resources of EU were also discussed at the meeting.
At negotiations, functioning and future cooperation within format European Neighborhood policy and Eastern Partnership were discussed. It was noted that current cooperation and European Standards would serve development of Azerbaijan.
The Parties welcomed the achievements the Association Agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan and underlined importance of continuing discussions.
At the same time, energy and transport cooperation between Azerbaijan and the EU were discussed. In this regard, the EU representatives noted that Azerbaijan is one of the important strongholds at the European energy security and diversification of energy resources and leading role of Azerbaijan in realization of the Southern Gas Corridor project were underlined at the sitting.
Extension of other bilateral spheres of strategic partnership on energy field between EU and Azerbaijan was discussed widely At the meeting,.
In this context, especially the political dialogue between the EU and Azerbaijan, to increase high-level visits and other actual issues has been discussed.
After the official meeting, business lunch was arranged for the representatives. Existing situation and prospects of relations with the EU, cooperation within the framework of Eastern Partnership, the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as regional and other processes were discussed during the lunch.
