Addressing the Russian parliament, Deputy Minister said the positions of the Caspian states in the negotiations on the status are coming close, but the discord has not been eliminated.
“The legal status of the Caspian Sea is a complicated problem, it should be taken into account that throughout the history of our country this issue was regulated by Soviet-Iran agreements,†he said.
Russian official said there exists a certain format of negotiations.
“We consciously do not insist on linking the development of the legal status of the Caspian Sea with the conclusion of the agreement. The lack of the final agreement on the status should not impede security cooperation,†he said.
