Richard Morningstar: The US government supports the Trans-Caspian pipeline

Baku. Habil Suleymanzadeh â€“ APA. â€œThe US government supports the Trans-Caspian pipeline. Now it is important that the European Union, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan reach an agreement,â€ US Secretary of Stateâ€™s Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy Richard Morningstar, who is visiting Baku, said while answering APAâ€™s question about disapproval of the project by Russia and Iran. According to Special Envoy, if the three sides expected to be involved in the project reach an agreement on the construction and terms of the pipeline, US will welcome this agreement. Richard Morningstar considers that Trans-Caspian pipeline is a useful project for all the sides.

Positively assessing the meetings held with the representatives of government and energy companies in Azerbaijan, Richard Morningstar said they welcome Azerbaijan-Turkey gas deal.
â€œWe think that the gas deal signed between the two countries will be an important element in terms of the South Corridor project,â€ he said.
He said the US government is fully committed to the South Corridor project and now the main issue is to ensure the profitability of the project.

Touching on Nabucco project US diplomat underlined its importance from political and strategic aspects.
â€œThe views that this project has lost its importance are groundless and now the main thing is time. If the sides involved in Nabucco project reach an understanding, the Export-Import Bank of the United States may support this project,â€ he said.
