Her visit once again shows the EU wants to be more involved in the region, including in the solution of the so-called frozen conflicts, especially the one between Armenia and Azerbaijan”, Kristian Vigenin, a Member of the European Parliament and chairman of the working group of the Party of European Socialists about EU enlargement to the Western Balkans, in an interview with FOCUS News Agency.

“The conflict has been vexing the atmosphere for years”, Vigenin said. “There is tiny progress. It seems to me a stronger EU commitment could change this”.

Kristian Vigenin visited Armenia last week. He also held talks about the issue with Nagorno-Karabakh and the ties between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He said he would brief EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton on his talks in Armenia before her visit to the South Caucasus.

Catherine Ashton will be on a visit to the South Caucasus on November 15-17, 2011. She will visit Azerbaijan on November 15, Georgia on November 16 and then she will leave for Armenia.
