Matthew Bryza: â€œThe ancient settlement found in Tovuz region of Azerbaijan has analogues only in several places in the worldâ€

The diplomat met with local authorities and was informed about the geographical location, strategic significance, economy and tourism potential of the region. Bryza visited Heydar Aliyev Park and the symbolic fortress built in the entrance of the region, where he saw the maps of Azerbaijan informing him that throughout the past centuries the territory of Azerbaijan was step-by-step divided as a result of occupation policy of the neighbor countries and joined to the territory of those countries.

Ambassador Matthew Bryza became familiar with the archeological research of a Neolithic settlement found in Tovuz. â€œI have great impressions from my visit to Tovuz. For the first time I see an ancient settlement of age of 8 000 years. I highly appreciate the history of Azerbaijan, because it is a beginning of civilizations. Such settlements were found in Mesopotamia and may be in other several places. This ancient settlement found in Tovuz is very important place for whole mankind. I want to meet local residents and become familiar with their life, farms. I think the agriculture is the second important field for the investors after oil and gas industry. The lands are very fruitful here and the local residents are working peopleâ€.

Matthew Bryza reminded that he is a former co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group. â€œIndeed, I address the Nagorno Karabakh problem every day. I am working for the fair and peaceful solution for the problem. I hope it will be so. I have regular communications with the co-chairs regarding this issueâ€.

The ambassador said he might visit the villages of Azerbaijanâ€™s Tovuz region bordering with Armenia. â€œI came here today with my wife and little daughter Maya. I am looking forward to visit the frontier villages. Previously I was in those villages and I can visit these areas again together with the co-chairs. I want to visit Guba and Khachmaz regions too. We are also planning to attend the inauguration of a girlsâ€™ school in Astara region jointly with the Heydar Aliyev Foundationâ€.
