Azerbaijani and Hungarian presidents make joint statement

President Aliyev underlined that President Schmitt’s first official visit to Azerbaijan had a historical character and said that the talks they held today once again proved high level of relations between Hungary and Azerbaijan.

President said that the political relations between the countries had passed the test and the countries were successfully cooperating in the international organizations and there was a good potential for the efficient cooperation.

Head of State said that the regional security issues, especially the settlement of Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict were among the issues discussed today: “The conflict must be solved only on the basis of international law”.

Noting that one of the topics of discussion was the energy cooperation, President Aliyev said that European Union-Azerbaijan relations were successfully developing and Hungary was supporting this cooperation at all times.

President Aliyev said they also focused on humanitarian relations during the talks and Azerbaijan attached great importance to the cooperation with Hungary.

Head of State expressed confidence that the Hungarian President’s visit to Azerbaijan will give impetus to the extension of relations between the countries.

In his turn, President Schmitt said Hungary also attached great importance to the development of relationship with Azerbaijan. Emphasizing the importance of the talks held today, Hungarian President said his country had a great experience in the fields of agriculture, irrigation engineering, water cleaning and other spheres. Today Azerbaijan, which is rich of energy resources, is in the focus of attention of whole Europe, Schmitt said. He spoke about the current state and prospects of the cooperation between the countries in the fields of culture, education, science and trade.

Hungarian President said he believed that the documents signed today would give impetus to further extension of relations between the countries.
