PACE Committee to hold hearing on political prisoners

Baku. Victoria Dementieva â€“ APA. Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights will hold its regular meeting on November 16, 2011 in Paris. The committee will hold a hearing on political prisoners, in the context of the preparation of a report by Christoph StrÃ¤sser (Germany, SOC), APA reports.

The committee is due to adopt a report by Marie-Louise Bemelmans-Videc (Netherlands, EPP/CD) on guaranteeing the authority and effectiveness of the ECHR, and one by Christos Pourgourides (Cyprus, EPP/CD) on the UNâ€™s International Convention for the Protection of all Persons from Enforced Disappearances, in which he emphasises the importance of its signature and ratification by Council of Europe member states. Also up for adoption is the report by GyÃ¶rgy Frunda (Romania, EPP/CD) on "Drafting an additional protocol to the European Convention for Human Rights: basic standards for national minorities".

Christoph StrÃ¤sserâ€™s visit to Azerbaijan scheduled for November 4 was postponed because of visa problem.
