CPT representatives to visit Azerbaijan

Speaking about the Committeeâ€™s report, Huseynov said the document contained reports about the visits realized in one-year period and the issues focused during these visits. â€œWe reported the list of countries we visited in one-year period and about our visits. I should note that the Committee representatives didnâ€™t visit Azerbaijan in the reporting period and therefore recent report didnâ€™t contain any material relating to Azerbaijan. But representatives of the Committee are expected to visit Azerbaijan by the end of this yearâ€.

Huseynov said according to the procedure, the report on the country is prepared within six months after the visit. â€œIt is very positive case that Azerbaijan agreed to publicize these reports. For example, in 2008, the report on Azerbaijan was released. Regarding the fulfillment of recommendations made in the last report, the Committee could return to this issue in its next report only. During the visit, the Committee examines the fulfillment of its recommendations by the government, makes assessment and if it is needed, repeats these recommendations or make new one in the next report. The CPT representatives will examine the fulfillment of their recommendations by the government of Azerbaijan during the next visit and make assessment in the report prepared on the results of this visitâ€.

Huseynov held a briefing for the journalists in Strasbourg and released the Committeeâ€™s annual report.

Head of the state-building legislation department of the Azerbaijani Parliamentâ€™s office Latif Huseynov was elected the CPT president in March, 2011.
