Marrakesh hosts 4th session of UN Anti-Corruption Convention Conference

According to APA, more than 1600 representatives from 154 participating countries, as well as observer countries, international organizations and non-governmental organizations attended the session.
Head of the Department of the Presidential Administration on Work with Law-enforcement Agencies Fuad Alasgarov, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco Sabir Aghabeyov, Secretary of the Commission on Combating Corruption Inam Karimov, Chief of the Anti-Corruption Office under the Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev also attended the event.
Participants of the session focused attention on the implementation of the Convention, technical assistance, assets recovery, preventive measures and other issues. Head of the Azerbaijani delegation Alasgarov addressed the conference. He spoke in details about the measures and achievements in the field of struggle against corruption and increasing transparency in Azerbaijan. He emphasized that President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev determined the issues of struggle against the corruption as a priority of state policy. Different documents describing measures conducted in the field of political, social and economic development, legal reforms and struggling against the corruption in Azerbaijan were submitted to the participants.
Azerbaijani delegation met with the representatives of a number of countries and international organizations within the framework of the conference. The prospects of cooperation on combating corruption, opening the regional office of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in Baku, joint efforts for strengthening struggle against the drug trafficking were discussed at the meeting with UN Deputy Secretary General, Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime Yuriy Fedotov. The meeting with Head of the Public Service Department of the Russian Presidential Administration Sergei Dubik, focused on the directions of bilateral legal cooperation and stressed the importance of development of relations in this field. Azerbaijani delegation also met with the top officials of the Austria-based International Anti-Corruption Academy and discussed the issues related to organizing joint events and publications, strengthening cooperation between the educations centers. Azerbaijani officials also met with the representatives of the Transparency International and Global Organization of Parliamentarians against Corruption (GOPAC) and negotiated the issues of organizing joint events and strengthening cooperation. States Parties to the Convention adopted relevant resolutions and decisions on the issues considered by the Conference’s agenda. The next session of the Conference will be held in 2013 in Panama. The participants also approved the preliminary agenda of the next session.
