Baku. Ramil Mammadli – APA. A series of anti-Azerbaijan events held according to the Iranian authorities’ instruction are continued in the mosques of Tabirz.

Eastern Azerbaijani Front of Islamic Revolutionary Cultural Studies started series of events on the topic of “Studying Islamism in the Republic of Azerbaijan”. The first event entitled “Khomeini supporters in the Republic of Azerbaijan” was held at the Ayatollah Taligani Mosque of Tabriz. Expert Mehdi Nalbandi spoke about the role of Islam and Shi’itism in the history of Azerbaijan and focused attention on the role of Islamic revolution and Iranian former religious leader Ayatollah Khomeini in strengthening of Shi’itism in Azerbaijan.

Director of “Aran” International Cultural and Research Institute, which supports territorial claims against the Republic of Azerbaijan, and editor of “Aran” journal Hasan Gulu delivered keynote speech, which contained ideas threatening the statehood and independence of Azerbaijan. Gulu accused Azerbaijan of cooperation with the United States and Israel, and development of Vahhabism and Zionism. He claimed that anti-Islam and anti-Iran propaganda was accelerated in Azerbaijan: “When will the Islamic revival start in the Republic of Azerbaijan? Why the Republic of Azerbaijan, which is the nearest Islamic country to us, couldn’t derive benefit from this revival? The reason of unsettlement of such questions is the lack of necessary propaganda among the people and socio-political activists in Azerbaijan. During the two centuries anti-Iranian and anti-Islamic programs were established and realized in this country. The geographical names were changed during the Soviet period in this country, Qur’an alphabet was replaced by Russian and Latin alphabet, the language was deformed, anti-Iranian and anti-Islamic films were shot, the poems insulting Iran and Islam were written, the history was distorted, scientists and the devout were killed during the communist period, as well as reading of Qur’an was banned. Azerbaijan continues such programs in the period of independence and some of its examples can be seen in the analyses of anti-Iranian media of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.

Gulu noted that the culture of these people was not completely separated from the Iranian culture. He protested the arrest of leaders of the Azerbaijan’s Islamic Party and proposed to Iranian population, including Tabriz residents, to give moral support to the Azerbaijani Islamists.
