Christof StrÃ¤sserâ€™s visit to Azerbaijan postponed

Baku. Victoria Dementieva - APA. The visit of Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on political prisoners in Azerbaijan Christof StrÃ¤sser to Azerbaijan was postponed, StrÃ¤sserâ€™s office told APA. The Office said that the rapporteur had to postpone his visit because he failed to get visa.

â€œMr StrÃ¤sser applied for a visa for a trip to Azerbaijan next week. Mr StrÃ¤sser applied by post, by mail and our office called the embassy two times. The embassy did not answer the inquiries. So he has to postpone the trip. There will be a hearing in the next session of the committee in Strasbourg.â€ â€“ the office said.

Commenting on the issues, Spokesman for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told APA that Azerbaijan considers the rapporteurâ€™s visit to our country under this mandate unfair and inadmissible: â€œThe concept of â€œpolitical prisonerâ€ was not determined correctly by the Council of Europe. As regards StrÃ¤sserâ€™s visit to Baku, there is no problem with his visit to Azerbaijan as a simple German citizen or deputy of Bundestagâ€.

It was reported that StrÃ¤sser will visit Azerbaijan on November 4.
