Azerbaijani President receives delegation attending meeting of CIS Council of Chiefs of Security and Special Intelligence Services
“All this gives impetus to the high-level mutual activity and mutual support in the post-Soviet area. Our biggest achievement within the 20 years after the fall of the Soviet Union is that we have been able to maintain and strengthen friendship among our peoples and countries,†he said.
President said various meetings, events held within the framework of CIS create good prospects for the enhancement of cooperation, and underlined that the relations in the humanitarian sphere strengthened. The Head of State mentioned the First International Humanitarian Forum held with the participation of CIS countries in Baku.
President Ilham Aliyev also touched on the economic relations and cooperation of special intelligence services among the CIS countries.
“We are closely cooperating in the area of law-enforcement bodies, protection of the borders on bilateral and multilateral level, struggle against organized crimes, and of course, through the special intelligence service in combating biggest threats. We all are interested in peace, prosperity and progress in our countries. We have got big targets to improve the living standard, welfare of our citizens,†he said.
The Head of State underlined the importance of struggle against terrorism and extremism, which impede these targets, and spoke about the tasks of the special intelligence services.
Director of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB), chairman of the CIS Council of Chiefs of Security and Special Intelligence Services, General Alexander Bortnikov said the security and special intelligence services are closely cooperating and underlined that they have united efforts in the struggle against international terrorism, extremism and other common threats.
Bortnikov said due to the joint activity of the CIS security and special intelligence services in the past 20 years, the threats are prevented in time and efficient preventive measures are taken. According to him, the level of terrorism, extremism and other threats has recently increased due to the usage of information-communication technologies and recent scientific innovations. Bortnikov underlined the necessity of joint cooperation.
The guest presented a gift to Azerbaijani President on behalf of the heads of delegations.
