President Ilham Aliyev issues statement on election of Azerbaijan as non-permanent member of UN Security Council
As you know, in the two-day elections Azerbaijan prevailed in all rounds and stages. In the first round, Azerbaijan was the first among three candidates. And in the latest stages of voting, our country was always supported by majority. As a result, 15 countries voted for Azerbaijan and elected us a non-permanent member to this authoritative organization. Taking the opportunity, I would express gratitude to all those countries that believed in us, relied on us, those who honored us. That is, I want to stress that Azerbaijan in this organization will serve the ideals, peace, security, democracy and justice it adheres.
We have enough achievements. Current year we mark the 20th anniversary of our independence. We celebrate this jubilee solemnly and with great accomplishments. On the threshold of jubilee, the held actions and made statements reflect the country’s dynamic and successful development. That is, our country successfully develops in all fields. The internal processes go in positive directions. The country’s development has no analogue in the world. This progress is watched in all spheres.
Azerbaijan is successfully moving forward in the solution of social problems, economic development and implementation of infrastructure projects. Together with these achievements, reforms carried out in the country, our foreign policy is also rapid and successful. The essence of our foreign policy is that Azerbaijan is pursuing independent policy. This policy ensures the interests of the Azerbaijani people. This policy aims at enhancing the cooperation.
The number of our friends is increasing. I have several times expressed my opinion about it. I want to reiterate that we have enough friends in the world. If formerly such statements were not proved with concrete results, this voting is the visual evidence of all these statements. 155 countries believe in Azerbaijan, respect Azerbaijan and support Azerbaijan.
This great success within 20 years of our independence is our historical achievement. We have been able to prove ourselves to be an independent country. We have been able to prove that Azerbaijan is a reliable partner, Azerbaijan is a friendly country and the increase of the friends is the triumph of our policy. This voting coincides with the 20th anniversary of our independence. This is a symbolic event. It shows that within 20 years Azerbaijan has proved itself to be an independent state that enjoys world-wide fame.
This is the victory of the Azerbaijani people. This is the victory of the Azerbaijani state, of our policy. On the occasion of this great victory, I want to share my joy with the citizens of Azerbaijan. I want to assure the Azerbaijani people once more that our country will further develop successfully, the number of our victories will increase. Dear friends, once more I congratulate you on this historical event, wish robust health and happiness to the Azerbaijani people.â€
