Baku-APA. Pakistan. Morocco, Guatemala at first round and Togo at third round have been elected to non-permanent member of Security Council.

But for the Europe it was not so easy to elect the next non-permanent member, APA reports. Azerbaijan and Slovakia are still competing for this chair. Hungary having fewer votes stopped run for UN SC.

However, in fourth and fifth rounds votes were almost the same Azerbaijan took 93 and Slovenia 98. In a sixth round Azerbaijan took a lead over Slovenia, 96-95 accordingly. In the seventh round Azerbaijan strengthened its position for 100 votes against 91 of Slovenia despite it was not enough for Azerbaijan to take chair at UN Security Council.

Elections for one chair from Eastern Europe still continue. Today’s elections are being held to replace the departing members of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Gabon, Lebanon and Nigeria.
The new members will join Colombia, Germany, India, Portugal and South Africa, whose terms end on 31 December 2012, and the five permanent Council members, which each wield the power of veto – China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
