According to deputy chairman of the World Union of Ahiska Turks Burhan Ozkosar, the government commission chaired by the Georgian deputy minister for work with refugees Tamar Martiashvili said they would gave status of repatriate to the refugees until the end of 2011 to accelerate the repatriation process. The commission investigated 5806 documents, including 2000 in Russian (about 30 000 documents concerning the population) and it will allow repatriation of the people, who will accept the conditions.
Ahiska Turks were deported from Georgia to the Central Asia in 1944. They were deported from the Central Asia after the Fergana tragedy in 1989 and received the status of refugee in 13 countries, including Azerbaijan.
