Azerbaijan to appeal to IAEA and EU for deactivation of Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant
Garibov said that Heydar Aliyev raised a question on the danger of Metsamor nuclear power plant during IAEA Secretary General Mohamed Al Baradei’s visit to Baku in 2002.
According to the institute director, Turkey and Georgia support Azerbaijan’s proposal: “Turkey actively joined us on this process. Georgia also expressed its position. I suppose that we will have any decision after the discussion of this questionâ€.
Garibov said that the discussion is being held on the deactivation of nuclear power plant’s activity in Lithuania: “I suppose that the European Union will support us on the issue of the deactivation of the Metsamor nuclear power plant’s second block.â€
