Strasbourg. Fuad Gulubeyli – APA. Fulfillment of obligations by Georgia was discussed at today’s plenary meeting of PACE spring session, APA’s correspondent reports from Strasbourg. Member of Azerbaijani delegation Rafael Huseynov delivered speech at the discussions as well.

Huseynov said that successes achieved by Georgia within 20-year independence period are remarkable: “Truth is revealed more quickly in comparison. If we compare Georgia with other country in the South Caucasus – Armenia, we will see the difference of development parameters, the difference between the real independence and semi-independency, the difference between the real democracy and pseudo-democracy. There are a lot of similarities between political fates of Azerbaijan and Georgia during the period of independence. Azerbaijan and Georgia, as well as our other neighbor Turkey faced constant unjust territorial claims by Armenia. Armenian aggressive policy which has not independent will left aside it from all important regional projects, thus, caused one more obstacle in front of harmonic economic and democratic development in the South Caucasus. If these mentioned and undesirable factors are not exist, today, we will able to speak about bigger achievements and development of Georgia”.

Rafael Huseynov said one of the most important ties uniting Azerbaijan and Georgia is that historically half a million Azerbaijanis were densely populated there and they are taking active part in the progress of the country.
“20 years ago approximately same number of Azerbaijanis lived in Armenia. But all of them, including other national minorities were deported and now Armenia has become a monoethnic country. The situation is contrary in Georgia. Steps are gradually being taken in this country for ensuring the Azerbaijanis’ right to education and other cultural rights, solving their social problems. We would like to believe that we will witness more serious initiatives with this regard in future. We are also satisfied with the noble intentions of the Georgian government for the restoration of the rights of Meskhetian Turks, who suffered from the Soviet political repression, and establishment of living conditions for them in the areas, from where they were once expelled. We hope that these efforts will produce real results,” he said.
