Baku. Elnur Mammadli – APA. The Political Innovation and Technology Center released analytical report about the socio-political developments at the international and regional arenas in December, 2009. According to APA, head of the center Mubariz Ahmedoglu mentioned US-Iran relations at a press conference on Wednesday. He said US term for stopping Iranian nuclear program expired and Iran had domestic and international problems since December. Focusing on the situation in the South Caucasus, Mubariz Ahmedoglu said tensions in the region created serious threat: “Socio-economic problems and unfair attitude toward the peoples living in the region are the main reasons which are increasing tensions”.

Ahmedoglu mentioned the Russian-Armenian relations as well. He said both countries were experiencing deep crisis in their relationship and it had two main reasons. “Serious processes around Armenia overshadow crisis in its relationship with Russia and Armenia can conceal tensions in its relations with Russia. The main sign of crisis between the two countries is that the Russian president is avoiding meeting with his Armenian counterpart under the different pretexts”.

Ahmedoglu said there were series of significant steps toward the solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict last year and great expectations for the conflict solution in 2010. “It is necessary for Azerbaijan to use its political, diplomatic, economic and military opportunities to solve the conflict. There have been lags in the position of Armenia recently. In his New Year address to the Armenian people, Serzh Sargsyan didn’t mention Nagorno Karabakh, which shows that Armenia steps back”. The analyst said Armenia has frequently changed its position recently.

The report also covered the important events in Georgia, Central Asia and the world last month.
