Nagorno Karabakh problem discussed in Obama-Erdogan meeting – <font color=red>PHOTOSESSION</font>

Washington – APA. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Barack Obama had a 40-minute meeting, APA reports. Capricia Penavic Marshall, Chief of Protocol, welcomed Erdogan in front of the White House. Turkey’s role in the region, sending soldiers to Afghanistan, Turkey-Armenia relations and the recent situation in the Near East were discussed at the meeting.

State ministers of Turkey Ali Babacan, Egemen Bagis, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, Minister Mustafa Demir, former minister Gurshat Tuzmen as the representative of the parliamentarians and Turkish ambassador to the US Nabi Sensoy attended the meeting.

Following the meeting, U.S. President Barack Obama said both countries were resolute in combating terrorism. Obama said Turkey had “an important role” in the solution of the problem concerning Iran’s nuclear program.

Erdogan said they were ready to do their best for the solution of the problem.

Obama said he had congratulated Erdogan on the efforts for establishing relations between Turkey and Armenia. U.S. President said he had inspirited Erdogan to continue efforts in this direction.

Prime Minister said they were ready to take serious steps in connection with Nabucco project, the negotiations continued concerning the project with Azerbaijan and expressed his confidence that good results would be produced. Erdogan said the will of the international companies was significant for the success of the project.

Prime Minister said they had talked about Azerbaijan-Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh problem and added that the issue was very important for Turkey-Armenia rapprochement.

Prime Minister said they exchanged views on the importance of acceleration of the negotiations on the Nagorno Karabakh problem by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs US, Russia and France. Prime Minister said the normalization of the relations between Turkey and Armenia was much connected with Nagorno Karabakh negotiations.
“As Turkey’s leadership we are decisive in this issue,” he said.
Erdogan underlined that they had discussed the situation in the region with Obama.
He expressed his confidence that the US has an important role in the restoration of peace and stability in the world.
