Azerbaijani political scientist: â€œEuroNews report about Nagorno Karabakh doesnâ€™t meet standards of this channelâ€

Baku. Lachin Sultanova â€“ APA. â€œEU allocates 5 million Euro for EuroNews every year. This is very reliable channel and is considered over the world as an unbiased, non-party and professional news source. But its report about Nagorno Karabakh is non-professional product not meeting the standards of this channelâ€, Azerbaijani political scientist Tural Karimli told APA. He said unfortunately the news channel, which has 250 million audiences in 135 countries, didnâ€™t learn official position of Azerbaijan, the second part of the conflict, and broadcasted unilateral and biased material. â€œPress service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan immediately issued a statement of protest. I think it is not enough. We have to achieve EuroNews to broadcast new and unbiased material about Nagorno Karabakh in a short time. Azerbaijan is a member of the European Broadcasting Union and we can raise the issue thereâ€.

Karimli said EuroNews head office located in Lyon, France, but it is not a French channel. 25 % of its shares are owned by France Television (France), 22 % - RAI (Italy), 17 % - RTR (Russia). Turkeyâ€™s TRT also became EuroNews shareholder in February, 2009. It owned 15 % of shares. I think Azerbaijanâ€™s Public Television, which is closely working with TRT, the fourth large shareholder, can raise this issue together with its counterparts at a high level. Ukraine bought one percent of its shares in 2006. Azerbaijan purchased advertising space on EuroNews in 2007 to attract foreign tourists to the country.

Several days ago Euronews broadcasted a material where director of the Luven Universityâ€™s Academic Council Professor Bernard Koulie called Nagorno Karabakh a heart of Armenia and unique region with ancient Armenian-Christian culture. The report was prepared by the EuroNews journalists who visited Nagorno Karabakh recently. Their visit was organized by the European Friends of Armenia (EuFoA).
