Baku. Elnur Mammadli-APA. Media reports that Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index ranks Azerbaijan at 2nd in 2009 are not correct, said Rana Safaraliyeva, Head of Transparency-Azerbaijan.
The said Transparency International annually publishes Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI).
“The CPI Index was last released in September 2008. Then, Azerbaijan ranked 158th among 180 countries. Because the Corruption Perception Index-2009 is due to come out in September or October, media reports about Azerbaijan’s rank for this year are far from true,†she added.
The CPI ranks 180 countries by their perceived levels of corruption, as determined by expert assessments and opinion surveys.
Some media reports said Azerbaijan ranked 2nd after Iraq in the list.
