Baku – APA. “The issue on the legal status of the Caspian should be solved once and for all,” Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at the regional conference in Astrakhan on the legal status of the Caspian, APA reports.
“The negotiations on the status of the Caspian continue for 12 years and there is still very little progress. Frankly speaking, the negotiations are not so easy. Sometimes the negotiations are not held at all. This is a very hard process. But it is clear that giving serious political impetus to accelerate the work on the Convention on the legal status of the Caspian meets the interests of all littoral states,” he said.
Medvedev underlined that positive results have been achieved in this field.
“There are improvements particularly in the delimitation of the Caspian seabed. We reached agreement with Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan on the delimitation of the seabed. This is a positive experience and it can be used in the delimitation of seabed in the south part of the Caspian. Of course, there are difficulties. This is mainly connected with the delimitation of water surface and seabed. A decision may be passed if good will is demonstrated,” he said.
