Letters of credit reach a historic high in Azerbaijan’s banking system

Baku. Vahab Rzayev - APA-Economics. As of October 1, Azerbaijan-based banks have carried out letters of credit worth AZN 35.910 million, up 3.2 times on the same period last year.
The transactions on letters of credits accounted for 0.54% of the total loan portfolio, up 0.24% on a year ago. This share is too low although it is a historical high.
Also, the amount of factoring transactions reached AZN 20.74 million, a 0.1% decline on a year ago and a 2.1 times increase on earlier this year.
The factoring transactions accounted for 0.31% of the loan portfolio, given that the ratio was 0.55 on October 1, 2007 and 0.21% on January 1, 2008.
The amount of factoring transactions rose by 25 times or AZN 19.940 million in September.
