APA-Economics. The international anti-corruption organization – Transparency International released Bribe Payers Index 2011, evaluating the supply side of corruption - the likelihood of firms from the world’s industrialized countries to bribe abroad. The 2011 Bribe Payers Index ranks 28 of the world’s largest economies according to the perceived likelihood of companies from these countries to pay bribes abroad. It is based on the views of business executives as captured by Transparency International’s 2011 Bribe Payers Survey. Countries are scored on a scale of 0-10, where a maximum score of 10 corresponds with the view that companies from that country never bribe abroad and a 0 corresponds with the view that they always do. Companies from Russia and China, which invested US $120 billion overseas in 2010 and are increasingly active in global business, are seen as most likely to pay bribes abroad. Companies from the Netherlands and Switzerland are seen as least likely to bribe. The six countries ranked in the index for the first time are Argentina, Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. These countries were all in the bottom half of countries scored.
