Baku hosts next meeting of CAREC Senior Officials

Head of administration of the Ministry of Economic Development, national coordinator of CAREC Program on country Samir Valiyev spoke about the program and its role in the development of regional cooperation and noted that though the program faced several difficulties during the global economic crisis started 3 years ago, in general, the crisis did not weakened the activity of the program: â€œWithin the program, $ 15 bn funds was invested to such priority spheres as trade, transport and energy, and these investments was directed to modernization of infrastructure in regional countries and improvement of living standards of populationâ€.

â€œ2011 will be productive year for CAREC. The achievements gained so far and the experience will be profitable for stepping of program into new stage in the next decade, as well as for more expansion of mutual cooperation between the regional countriesâ€, Valiyev added.

Events devoted to 10th anniversary of CAREC Program, working plan of program for 2011 and other issues were discussed at the meeting.

Tomorrow, on the second day of the event, representatives of Ministries of Economic Development and Industry and Energy, as well as officials of the ADB, WB and IMF will deliver speeches about the works carried out in the main activity sectors of CAREC. Meeting on Project for Improvement of the regional border services will be held on June 9.

Remind that, CAREC Program was established in 2001 by the ADB in order to provide the improvement of economic growth and living standards in the member-states by supporting the regional cooperation in transport, energy, trade, customs and other spheres.
