VISA: Azerbaijan needs stimulating measures for improvement of non-cash settlements

According to APA-Economics, CBA first deputy chairman Alim Guliyev, Visa’s chief executive for Russia, the CIS and South-Eastern Europe Steven Parker and VISA Regional Manager for CIS Alexander Kalita attended the event.

A. Guliyev note that, leadership of the country has given tasks to all bodies for improvement of non-cash settlements and the relevant state program is being developed, measures are being taken for extension of non-cash settlements. He noted that, 5 processing centres operated in Azerbaijan, system was put into operation for e-implementation of payments, statistics on number of plastic cards circulation, ATMs and POS-terminals is positive.

S. Parker noted that, VISA International Company had been in cooperation with Azerbaijan since 1997 and spoke about the achievements. According to him, plastic cards sphere in Azerbaijan develops and this is an important factor for not only banking system, but for all economy. At the same time, he noted that, although there were 47 mln plastic cards in the country, but the utilization of them were not satisfied, because the cards were used for extraction of cash. According to him, application of stimulating measures is important.

In turn, A. Kalita spoke about the domestic interbanks payment system launched by VISA International Company and noted that, this system would increase the circulation in plastic cards market and stimulate the banks’ operation in this sphere.
