Azerbaijan leads region in current account surplus

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA-Economics. Azerbaijan will lead the Caucasus and Central Asian region in terms of surplus in current account of payment in 2010, according to the IMF’s outlook for the region.

According to the forecasts, Azerbaijan’s current account surplus will rise from $8.3 billion in 2009 to $12 billion in 2010. The figure was $16.5 billion in 2008.

Current account surplus-to-GDP ratio is expected to be 19.6% in 2009 and 23.1% in 2010. the figure was 35.5% in 2008.

For the region, the surplus of balance of payment will be $22 billion in 2010. the figure will be $7.2 billion in Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, $4.7 billion in Kazakhstan, $2.3 billion in Uzbekistan.
