Azerbaijan reduces funding for overseas diplomatic missions

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-ECONOMICS. Azerbaijan reduced the amount of funding in the 2009 state budget for the maintenance of diplomatic missions abroad to AZN 50.5 million from 52 million, said Deputy Foreign Minister Vagif Sadikhov.

According to him, the 2010 draft budget envisages AZN 51 million for the maintenance of diplomatic missions abroad, he added.

In his words, the decline in funding was made after purchase of vehicles for diplomats was put off.

The deputy minister stressed the need to increase budget funding of diplomatic missions.

He added that there are 50 embassies, 5 missions to international organizations, 8 consulates, 2 embassy representative offices, and 3 honorary consuls abroad.
