Russia and Azerbaijan expect trade turnover to shoot up

Gabala. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. Trade turnover between Russia and Azerbaijan is expected to increase gradually, Andrey Belyaninov, Head of Russian Federal Customs Service.

He cited Russian statistics as saying annual trade turnover between the two countries is about 1.9 billion dollars.

“This amount will increase, bother Russia, and Azerbaijan should stand ready to boost trade,” he added.

Aydin Aliyev, Chairman of Azerbaijan State Customs Committee, said Russia is his country’s key foreign trade partner.

“Russia is the major importer for Azerbaijan. Russian imports accounts for 18-20% of our total imports,” he added.

According to Azerbaijan’s State Statistical Committee, Azerbaijan’s foreign trade for January- March 2009 amounted to 3 804.4 million dollars, including 2 482.3 million dollars of exports and 1 322.1 million dollars of imports. -

The country’s major trade partners in this period were Italy (20.7%), France (10.1%), United States (8.7%), Russia (8.2%), Germany (4.9%), Israel (4.9%), and Turkey (4.6%).

In imports, Russian share was 17.5%, Germany - 12.3%, Turkey - 12, 3%, Ukraine - 8,3%, UK- 6.1% US - 5.8%.

In exports, the main partners are Italy (30,7%), France (13.5%), United States (10.3%), Israel (6.6%), Canada (5.2%), Georgia (4.9% ), South Korea (3.8%), Indonesia (3.5%), Taiwan (3.3%), Russia (3.1%).
