Economic Research Center: Azerbaijan logs first inflation in 2009

Baku. Elnur Huseynguluyev â€“ APA-Economics. Consumer Price Index rose by 0.22 percent in Azerbaijan, including 0.20 percent in Baku and 0.24 percent in regions during May, according to the Economic Research Centerâ€™s report based on the Alternative Inflation Methodology Development Project.

The report is based on surveys on goods and services in 11 regions of the country.

According to the report, the price rise was 0.19 percent in foodstuffs, 0.16 percent in nonfoods and 0.37 percent in services.

The Economic Research Center said consumer prices increased for the first time in May after deflation in the first four months of 2009.

According to statistics, the consumer prices change was 3.29% deflation for January-May and 2.65% deflation as against May 2008.
