Loans account for 68% of bank assets in Azerbaijan

Baku. Vahab Rzayev â€“ APA-Economics. As of May 1, loans lent to customers by Azerbaijan-based banks account for 67.8% of assets, compared to 68.5% a month ago, said the central Bank of Azerbaijan.

According to the statistics, total assets amounted to AZN 8.999 billion and total loans AZN 6.102 billion. The share of loans in assets dropped by 0.5 percentage points during this year but increased by 1.6 percentage points from a year ago.

The level of 66-68% is considered as normal for Azerbaijan but this level is 50-55% in developed economies by practice. However, the share loans of assets is even much higher in emerging markets, such as Russia â€“ 70-75%.
