Azerbaijani national boxing team of men, who completed a training-exercise meeting in the US, have joined an international tournament in Pueblo, Boxing Federation told APA.
On the first day of the competition, joined by the hosting country, China, Germany, Puerto Rico, and Philippine national teams besides Azerbaijan, our two boxers won the stage.
Umid Rustamov, who entered the ring with a weight of 57 kg, was stronger than Chinese Xinyan Wang. Our boxer defeated his opponent with a score of 5:0 (29:28, 29:28, 30:27, 29:28, 30:27). Thanks to this victory, Rustamov advanced to the semi-finals and secured at least a bronze medal for himself. He will face Ping Liu (China) for a place in the final.
Nabi Iskandarov also started the race successfully. He defeated China's Qiancheng Wang, who won the prize-winner of the European Championship, in the 71 kg category. He qualified for the semifinals by winning 5:0 (30:27, 30:27, 29:28, 30:27, 30:27). With this, Iskenderov, who secured at least a bronze medal for himself, will challenge Omari Jones (USA) in his next fight.
