From November 19 to 21, the European Championship among juniors in taekwondo was held in the city of Aigle, Switzerland, the Ministry of Emergency Situations told APA.
It was stated that the competition was remembered for the brilliant performance of Azerbaijani national team. Thus, our taekwondo fighters won a total of 5 medals (2 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) in the prestigious event.
Members of our national team Ilyas Hatamli (48 kg) and Eljan Aliyev (78 kg) defeated all their opponents and won the title of European champion. Vasif Salimov (68 kg) won silver, while Mehdi Budagli (45 kg) and Novruz Aliyev (51 kg) claimed bronze medals.
The Azerbaijan's national team consisting of boys took first place in the overall standings and was awarded the cup.
Ilyas Hatamli (48 kg), a member of our national team who won the champion title, was selected as the “Best Athlete of the Competition,” and international referee Aygul Abdullayeva was chosen as the “Best Female Referee.”
