The first day of the taekwondo competition at the III CIS Games, held at the “Kur” Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir, was highly successful for the Azerbaijani team, APA reports.
Azerbaijani taekwondo athletes achieved impressive results across seven weight categories.
Ziya Hasanli (63 kg), Humay Dadashova (46 kg), and Maryam Mammadova (53 kg) won their final matches, earning Azerbaijan its first three gold medals of the Games.
In addition to the gold medalists, Eljan Aliyev (74 kg) and Umid Rahimzade (54 kg) advanced to the finals but were defeated, taking home silver medals.
Azerbaijani athletes also secured six bronze medals:
Men: Tamerlan Yagubov (54 kg), Allahverdi Mammadov (87 kg), Zeynal Aliyev (87 kg)
Women: Salima Guliyeva (46 kg), Nilufar Borji (53 kg), Nargiz Kazımova (62 kg)
In total, on the first day of the competition, the Azerbaijani taekwondo team won 11 medals (3 gold, 2 silver, 6 bronze), marking a spectacular start at the III CIS Games.

Taekwondo athlete Ziya Hasanli (63 kg) won the first gold medal for Azerbaijan at the III CIS Games, APA reports.
The final of the taekwondo tournament was held at the “Kur” Olympic Training and Sports Center in Mingachevir.
Hasanli defeated Russian competitor Egor Lakin in the decisive match to claim the championship.
This victory marked Azerbaijan’s first gold medal at the III CIS Games hosted by the country.
Another Azerbaijani taekwondo athlete also claimed gold at the III CIS Games. In the final of the 46 kg weight category, Humay Dadashova defeated her opponent to become champion. This victory became the second gold medal for Azerbaijan at the Games hosted in the country.
