The European Judo Championships among seniors, held in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, are ongoing, Apasport.az reports.
One of our judokas joined the competition on the second day of the tournament.
Olympic champion Hidayat Heydarov, representing our country in the 73 kg weight category, stepped onto the tatami.
He faced Greece’s Konstantinos Tsaparas in the round of 1/16. Our representative won by ippon and advanced to the round of 1/8.
Heydarov defeated Dardan Cenaj (Kosovo) in the round of 1/8. The Olympic champion then overcame France’s Dayyan Boulmtaves in the quarterfinal. He faced Bilal Ciloglu (Türkiye) in the semifinal.
Hidayat emerged victorious from this bout as well and secured a place in the final. His opponent in the decisive round will be Georgia’s Lasha Shavdatuashvili.
It should be noted that on the first day of the tournament, two of our judokas — Ahmad Yusifov and Turan Bayramov — won bronze medals.
