Investors appear bullish about positive tendencies in the market.
US stocks swung higher in midday trading as Bank of America posted higher quarterly profits and as energy stocks surged in the face of falling temperatures.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.45 per cent to 12,533.80 while the tech-dominated Nasdaq composite had gained 0.01 per cent to 2,431.41.
The Standard and Poor’s 500 broad-market index increased 0.35 per cent to 1427.99.
In London the FTSE rose 0.15%, while in Paris the CAC 40 fell 0.08 per cent and in Frankfurt the DAX lost 0.13 per cent.
European stock exchanges had mixed fortunes overnight, with London closing higher despite a 15-percent fall in the share price of sugar giant Tate and Lyle and Paris dragged down by a dramatic drop in telecoms group Alcatel-Lucent.
Alcatel-Lucent dipped 8.5%. /APA/
