APA reports quoting Turkish media that he is 45-year old Artyom Kozlov.
Kozlov neutralized after plane landed safely at Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen airport received slight injuries. He said in his preliminary testimony that he attempted to hijack the plane to demand the release of political prisoners in Ukraine and Russia. However, he did not name any prisoner.
The plane carrying 110 passengers had departed from the Ukraine and sent a signal to Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen Airport alerting officials to the hijack attempt. A passenger yelled “Bomb!” according to the network. The hijacker attempted to divert the plane to Sochi, where the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics are underway. Habib Soluk, the Transport Ministry undersecretary, told private NTV television Friday that the plane from Kharkov, Ukraine, to Istanbul, landed safely at Sabiha Gokcen airport. He says authorities convinced the passenger to give himself up.
The Ukrainian Security Service said the passenger who tried to hijack the plane was in a state of severe alcohol intoxication.
