The police retaliated with fire against the terrorists' attack; however the terrorists were reported to have escaped the scene of the incident
The two terrorists were then reported to have been trapped in a building by police.
Police surrounded the building and launched an operation after the pair ignored calls for them to surrender.
In later hours, media outlets reported that the the two women assailants involved in the attack were killed.
The Istanbul Governor Vasip Åžahin told reporters that the investigation to determine the identity of two women and the organization they belong to was in progress.
He said two police officers were wounded one by broken glass during the terrorists' attack at the police staion and the other during the operation on the building.
The two injured officers are in a stable condition, the governor added.
