Davutoglu said during a session of the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday that Syrian civilians are lucky to find shelter in neighboring countries. "At least they do not face attacks and starvation...7 million displaced Syrians face hunger and brutal attacks," he said. "The recently published photos allegedly showing torture by the Syrian regime reflects their 'medieval mentality'," he added.

He strongly criticized the international community for its inaction, but praised the Syrian opposition as it stands out at the conference.

Davutoglu reiterated his support for a political peace process that leads to a transitional government and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people.

According to the U.N., more than 100,000 people have been killed in Syria and 2.3 million others have been driven from their homes since the uprising began in March 2011.
