Baku-APATurkey's national intelligence service MIT has launched a comprehensive investigation into alleged foreign links to the ongoing Gezi Park protests, APA reports quoting Turkish Daily News.

"Different units of the MIT are working on different aspects of this movement. The outcome of this work will be submitted to the government," a senior official told reporters.

The three-week-old Gezi Park protests started as a peaceful environmental sit-in aiming to preserve the park but soon snowballed into a nationwide anti-government movement after harsh police crackdown. At least five people were killed and some 5,000 were injured in clashes between demonstrators and police.

Turkish government believes some foreign powers and international institutions were behind the protests. Earlier this month, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed " domestic extremists" and "foreign powers" for fanning the demonstrations.

According to Turkish Daily News, the initial findings of the probe by MIT, the Foreign Ministry and other state institutions will be discussed at Turkey's National Security Council meeting slated for June 25.
